Stair Lift Funding
A stair lift is a helpful piece of equipment that can be used by disabled persons for a facilitated access and it consists of a chair or platform that runs along a stair. Depending on the stairs' specifications or the person's need, one can find various models to choose from. These are in general very expensive due to the complexity of the manufacture and the custom-made measurements. It can be quite difficult for a disabled person to afford such a device, given the situation.
How Much is a Stair Lift? The price can vary considerably, but it's hard to find one lower than £1400. It includes the set up at home (or other place in which it's needed). It is possible to find a reconditioned stair lift for less. For example, Dolphin Mobility offer reconditioned ones for about £900. The prices for a curved stair lift can be anywhere between £2000-3000, but these are very useful for a stair with multiple sides or in spiral. Other factors that influence the price are the width and the length of the stairs, electrical outlets or whether the device will be on the left or on the right.
Where to Find Stair Lift Funding
- Disabled Facilities Grant – this is a grant that can help a disabled person to make the necessary changes at home for adapting it to their needs. These transformations are the most important ones: widening the door frames, building ramps inside and around the house, better access to heat and lighting switches, improving general accessibility and installing a stair lift if needed. To qualify for this grant, there are 2 conditions: the person who is applying must be the owner of the property on which changes are intended and they must prove the intention to live on the property during the grant period.
- The national body of Home Improvement Agencies – they help the elderly or the disabled to go on with an independent life. Their program usually consists of helping with finding financial assistance (grants and loans), contacting people that could help (occupational therapist, grants officers and others); also they help with making plans or schedules and making a more energy efficient house. The first visit to a Home Improvement Agency is free. http://www.foundations.uk.com/
